Orchestra Lessons

The community already knows West Music for its selection of musical instruments and its relationship with local orchestra programs. But, did you know that West Music also offers music lessons? Whether the lessons are for yourself or your child, we can make learning music both fun and rewarding!

Some of our most popular lessons include violin, viola, cello, and string bass lessons. The Suzuki Method is a fantastic option for younger students! Many of our orchestral lessons teachers are certified in the Suzuki Method, which fosters learning through consistency, listening, encouragement, repetition, and parent involvement to keep your student engaged in playing.

By taking lessons at West Music, students get additional benefits, including discounts on sheet music. With lesson studios across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, it’s easy to find a location and time that works for your family’s busy schedule!

What is the Suzuki Method?

While looking for music lessons for your child, you most likely have come across the term Suzuki Method and have wondered what it is. The Suzuki Method of music education is a proven approach to learning that focuses on developing the whole musician in a positive and nurturing environment. Not only does this method have great success with teaching children music, it also helps develop techniques and the confidence children can apply to all areas of learning!

With the Suzuki Method, children are taught how to play an instrument much like they learn their first language, through repetition and experimentation. Not only does this make learning fun, it allows students to start playing immediately without first having to learn to read music.

The Suzuki Method is exceptional another way: it stresses the role parents can take in their children’s musical journey even if they themselves cannot play a note! Parents and caregivers are encouraged to sit in on lessons and are shown how to take an active role in practice at home.

Children as young as 3 have learned to play violin using the Suzuki Method, and West Music is proud to partner with so many talented teachers that have it as a core to all of their music lessons.
